Objective: Like SEM imaging module, X-ray computed tomography (CT) is another modality commonly used for electronic systems assurance particularly when it comes to the package and board level. We provide an understanding of X-ray interactions and effect upon image quality of samples. We demonstrate how to setup X-ray data collection from sample preparation to parameter selection and reconstruction of the data. Practice on X-ray reconstruction and segmentation tools to reconstruct PCB & IC components.
Target Audience: Government officers, Scientists
Prerequisite Knowledge and Skills:
- programming knowledge: python
- IC design flow steps
Resources Provided at the Training | Deliverables:
- Detailed description of set-ups used in training
- A video demo of the module
Learning Outcome: In this module, we aimed to provide a “how to” guide for new users unfamiliar with micro-CT to obtain a better understanding of the technique. In addition, we provide suggestions and guidelines that can be used during research planning and facilitate the interaction between researchers and CT operators and/or facilities. An example, multi-layer PCB, scanned at various settings, was used to illustrate the procedure, and by making use of the guidelines, users can adapt the procedure to suit a variety of study electronics assemblies.
